Shotcut tutorial - Edit your videos free - The Shotcut

What is Shotcut?

Many people need to edit videos free. But most video editors need to pay. Don't worry, we have a solution. It is open-source video editors. I told you about the best five open-source video editors in the old post. There are many open-source and free video editors in the world. But anyone hard to find good free or opensource video editors. Shotcut is a good video editor for beginners and experts. You can find the reason why I am recommending a shortcut video editor in my old blog post.

How to download

You can free download Shortcut video editor on the Shotcut official website.                                       
After a Download, you can install Shotcut on your computer.

Start editing

After downloading the Shotcut video editor you can open it. And firstly you can create a new project. After creating a new project you can add a new media' file. To add a media file you can click open file or drag and drop media file to playlist. But the easy way is using shortcut keys, you can add a media file click Ctrl + o If you use a shortcut key or open file button you can see a preview of your media file in Shotcut. Now you can drag and drop your preview to the playlist.

 Then you can add media files to the timeline. To add your media files to the timeline you can right-click in the timeline and select Audio track or video track. If you going to add videos or pictures, you can choose a video track. And if you want to add an audio file you should need to click audio track. After creating your track you can drag and drop your media files to timeline.

Cut and Trim

If you want to cut the middle of your media file you can Cut (Split) using the split tool at the top of the timeline, or you can press the'S ' shortcut key. And if you want a trim, click the corner of the media file in the timeline and drag the position you want.

Fade audio

You can fade audio in Shotcut very easily. You need to click the top corner of your audio track and drag horizontally to drag-out a fade rectangle.

 More tools in Master

You can see the master tab in the corner of the timeline. you can mute the sound of audio files and hide your video file and pictures. After you can always use the lock track feature.

 Tip - If you can see little lag when you editing a big project, you can mute some soundtracks temporarily.

Export video

After editing your video you can export it to the media file. Shotcut has many formats and you can choose the format you like. To export video you can go to File > Export video or use shortcut key Ctrl + E.  Then you can choose the media format in the list. After choosing media format you can click an Export file and locate the location you need to save your computer. And click save.
